Just like The Forest, Sons of the Forest has survival mechanics at the core of its gameplay, with an emphasis on combat and exploration. Sons of the Forest also features a greatly enhanced AI system, vastly improving the behavior of enemies and allowing the player to make use of helpful companion characters. Crafting and base-building mechanics have also been re-fitted and improved, allowing players to build complex custom structures intuitively and adding animations to items crafted in the inventory
